To print from the laptops there are three methods, IP printing, Printing through DIP and Web Printing.

Contents

IP Printing

Uses a UNC path with IP address of printer to connect

DIP Printing

Needs to be configured by TSO See this doc

Only printers that already have installed drivers can be used.

Printer Security

By default when a printer is added to the DIP server it can be printed to by any laptop in the state. You need to modify the security settings for it to restrict it to just your school.

In Print Management after adding the printer right click on it and choose Manage Sharing... Then wait a little while for it to pop up Then remove the everyone group, and click Add... and type in either ~sch[code] or ~8137 then click Check Names and choose which group to add. To allow staff to delete jobs tick the Manage Documents box for that group.

I would also recommend adding the ~sch[code]TSO group with all tick boxes so that if TSO leaves the next TSO can manage it, as only the user who created it can modify the settings.

Web Print

PaperCut Web Print

WebPrint allows users to upload a document from their Laptop through their web browser and have it print to a chosen list of printers and charge the users Papercut Account.

We have it running on our Print server (Windows 2003 x32 virtual server). The server is both the print and papercut server. We installed Office 2007, Acrobat reader 9 and set it to autologin (limited user account) and run the WebPrint Sandbox program. As it is a virtual server there is no direct console access so no security issue there.

When a user submits a Web Print job with papercut it automatically opens the document in the app and prints it to the chosen printer, then charges the user's account.
