HP Thin Client Auto Login
Contents |
Introduction
This document shows how to setup the OASIS thin client PC’s (Library Enquiry Terminal’s and to an extent the cash register) to automatically launch the Citrix connection upon boot.
Auto Launch Citrix
After following the directions listed the terminal will:
- Boot into Citrix automatically
- Position and size the OASIS window so its in the top middle with a small border
- Make the application hide the windows desktop so the children aren’t tempted or able to launch anything
Customise the OASIS DOS Window
This works best on the default 1024x768 resolution. Customise depending on your choice of resolution. The window is positions at the top in the middle with an equal sized border on the left, right and top.
Launch the Enquiry Terminal and right click the title bar when it’s all logged in and waiting and set the following properties (adjust to suit taste accordingly)
- Font Settings
- Font: Lucinda Console
- Font Size: 20
- Window Settings:
- From left: 28
- From top: 28
Save the properties for all window titles with this name.
Customise Citrix
Under the default User login right click the Citrix icon in the system tray and go to properties. Under "Session Options" choose window size as full screen. This will put a full screen grey BACKGROUND. This will not make OASIS full screen however it does help your eyes focus on it easier as the obnoxious palm tree island background doesn’t try to grab your attention.
Auto start up
Log out of the User account. Log into the administrator account with the administrator password. Explore to the User login desktop and copy the connection file to the C: and rename it to something short. "Launch" is a good option. Also do not bother deleting the User login desktop shortcut or renaming it. It will be recreated on login by the computer. Run regedit and navigate too:
- HKLM
- Software
- Microsoft
- Windows
- CurrentVersion
- Run
- CurrentVersion
- Windows

- Software
Add a STRING entry name it "Launcher" or something easy. Modify the string data and point it to "C:\Launch.pnagent" or where ever you placed the copy of the launcher. The file extension is important or it won’t work. This is a work around of not being able to launch Citrix from the startup folder.
Commit changes
Open up the control panel under the administrator account. Choose the EWF Configuration click "Commit data to volume" after clicking this the boot command should change to commit and the green padlock in the system tray should unlock and turn yellow.
LARGE FONT CAPITAL LETTERS WARNING: THE COMPUTER IS SAFE UNTIL YOU CLICK COMMIT AND REBOOT. YOU CAN TEST YOUR CHANGES BY LOGGING OUT AND INTO THE NORMAL ACCOUNT BEFORE COMMITTING THE CHANGES. IF YOU AREN’T SURE OF SOMETHING DO NOT DO IT. DO NOT HOLD THE WRITER RESPONSIBLE SHOULD YOU BREAK ANYTHING.
Additional
This also works on the cash register however someone has to enter a password within the timeout period. There is no big loss if no one enters a password you just have to run the desktop link. Setting up the register and the Library Terminal like this mean that your eyes are drawn to OASIS and there are no associated backgrounds to cause your eyes to try and refocus. I’m hoping the DET can incorporate this into the default flash image for them to save everyone a little head ache.
